This isn't the world I wanted

When I chose to carry a life in

So many freedoms stripped away

Just after her life begins

The wheel of fortune upside down

On this land of the so called “free”

As the ivory towers built so fragile

Fall to unmet American Dreams

This little joy we made

Held in palm of our hands

Lights in me an audacious fire

I barely understand

My eyes are sharpened like a hawk

Find cracks in their wall of lies

I confuse, bemused, and ridicule

To keep surviving family ties

Through their fog of bureaucracy

I keep my head held above

If I cannot find peace in this world

I'll create it at home on wings of dove

My arms are at the ready to fight

My baby is counting on me

I will have a peaceful home for them

From sea to shining sea
